When visiting Singapore you will invariably come across the so called shophouses in the historic districts. They have been built between as early as 1840 all the way through the 1960s and cover quite a variety of styles and ornaments popular at the time of their construction. Generally two- to three- storeys high, built in contiguous blocks with common party walls they are narrow, small terraced houses, with a sheltered ‘five foot’ pedestrian way at the front (Source: URA.gov.sg)
